Meet the 2020-2021 Honors Student Advisory Board
Zoe Boiarsky
Chair
Zoe Boiarsky is currently a junior double majoring in Spanish and Portuguese Literature and Culture and Geography – Environment Society. She is also perusing a minor in Studio Art. Zoe spends a lot of her time on campus participating in different extracurriculars such as Student Ambassadors. She is also involved in research on campus. Zoe is currently working as a Research Assistant for the Wildfire Research Team and the Natural Hazards Center. In her copious amounts of free time, she enjoy spending time with her friends playing board games and hiking on the local trails. Zoe also has a passion for ceramics and enjoys creating little lizards.
Wendy Acevedo
Community Service Coordinator
Wendy is currently a sophomore at CU double majoring in Integrative Physiology and Psychology. Her goal is to work as a Pediatrician and work with children from her own community. Wendy joined the Honors Program Student Advisory Board in Spring 2020 as a community service representative. She is also currently a part of the Undergraduate Pre-Health Program at Anschutz and a mentor for the Student Academic Success Center (SASC). Wendy enjoys trying new food and watching documentaries about unsolved cases.
Jay Hevelone
Graphic Designer
Jay is a second-year senior, studying International Affairs, Linguistics, and German Studies with a minor in Italian. He joined the Honors Student Advisory Board in 2017 as the graphic designer. Design and typography have been integral parts of his life for many years and he enjoys the ability to explore new artistic areas with his work for the Board. Jay will be starting a Laurea Magistrale (Master’s) in Italy with the start of the 2021 academic year and hopes to start a career abroad. Outside of university, Jay likes spending time outdoors, exercising, and reading horrendously long books to say he’s done it.
Luke Weaver
Blog Administrator
Luke is a senior at the University of Colorado Boulder and is majoring in English Literature and minoring in Business Innovation & Entrepreneurship. Aside from being a frequent blogger, he is also a fiction editor for the CU Honors Journal and a circulation employee at the Howard B. Waltz Music Library. For Luke, writing has become a staple of his life; he sees it as a great tool for bringing people together and simply conveying his thoughts. As for personal interests, Luke enjoys cooking, backpacking, travelling the world, and simply socializing with friends. He is looking forward to building more connections and enjoying a vibrant college life before becoming a literary editor and business owner after graduation.
McKenzie Larson
Technology Liason
A Junior at CU double majoring in Atmospheric and Oceanic Sciences and Physical Geography, McKenzie Larson joined the Honors Program Student Advisory Board in Spring 2020 as the technology liaison. She became a member of the Browne research group in 2019 and has been working with an Ion Chromatography System for her independent study. The atmospheric chemistry research that she is completing will be used toward her Honors Thesis her Senior year. Outside of academics, McKenzie is the Piccolo Section Leader of the University of Colorado “Golden Buffalo” Marching Band and a member of the “Buff” Basketball Band. After graduating from CU, she plans on attending graduate school for Atmospheric and Oceanic Sciences or Climate Science.
Hannah Pritchard
Social Media Coordinator / Blog Associate
Hannah is a sophomore studying Environmental Studies and International Affairs with a minor in Creative Writing. She was born and raised in the Boulder area, and found her passion for the outdoors while growing up camping, hiking, backpacking, and fishing. Growing up with family members who came from a variety of countries and cultures, Hannah developed an interest in living and working internationally, particularly in francophone countries. Working with the City of Boulder Open Space and Mountain Parks as a trail steward cemented her desire to pursue Environmental Studies, and she hopes to establish a career in international conservation before attending law school. In addition to serving on the Honors Advisory Board, Hannah is also a Curriculum Developer for CU GOLD, as well as a member of President’s Leadership Class. Her hobbies include camping, hiking, martial arts, writing, and cooking.
Dr. Abby Hickcox
Faculty Advisor
Dr. Hickcox is the Associate Director of the Arts and Sciences Honors Program and Faculty Advisor for the Honors Program Student Advisory Board. She holds a PhD in geography and an MS in Environmental Studies. Her areas of teaching and research include environment-society geography, cultural geography, racism, environmental justice, and the politics of belonging. She truly enjoys supporting the students on the advisory board as they build community in Honors.
