Say Hello to Nadine Poole of the Honors Program Student Advisory Board
The Honors Program Student Advisory Board is proud to announce a new team member: Nadine Poole! Despite the lack of face-to-face interaction, it has been a pleasure to get to know Nadine and we look forward to her impact here at CU Boulder. If you see her around, feel free to say hello!
Tell us a little bit about yourself.
I grew up moving between Brazil and the US and I learned Portuguese and English simultaneously, so I identify very strongly with both cultures. I went to high school in the Washington, D.C. area, and I’m really excited to start a new life here in Colorado!
What will you enjoy most about your major/studies here at CU?
I’m hoping to major in MCD Biology and Physics, and it’s been an honor to learn from so many great professors. They have been so helpful and encouraging, and it’s clear that they’re very passionate about what they teach; even with online classes, they have done everything they can to engage the students in the material.
How do you feel being in the Honors Program?
Because of the pandemic, it’s been really hard to feel like a part of the CU community. That’s why having an in-person honors class has really helped me make friends – everyone has been so warm and welcoming! My favorite memories in the Honors Program have been made after my geography class, when my friends and I would talk with Dr. Hickcox; that has by far been the easiest way to meet new people!
Why did you want to join the board? What do you hope to get out of it?
I want to help build a stronger community at CU. With how the college experience is being restructured, I think it’s important to look for different ways to engage with students and make them feel like we’re all here for each other. I think it would be really fun to work on activities that encourage people in the Honors Program to get to know each other; that would alleviate a lot of stress and motivate everyone to continue working hard!
A fun fact about yourself!
I LOVE space!!! I decided to major in physics because of how much I love space!
