Get a Rundown of the New Honors Scholars Event: J.E.D.I. Series
One of the tasks of the Honors Program Student Advisory Board is to create and maintain a diverse pool of events for the Honors Scholars Program. First, it started with Coffee Hours. Then came TV with a Prof. Shortly after that, SciTalks came into play. With each of these event types, the effects are clear. Students and professors are bonding outside a classroom setting, Scholars are getting to know one another, and the entire Honors Scholars community is expanding. This is all great news, but now we are hoping to do something more: improve the social and mental health of CU Boulder’s population. With this in mind, we would like to introduce an all-new event: J.E.D.I. series. Take a look below to see what this is about!
What is J.E.D.I. Series?
J.E.D.I. series–an acronym for justice, equity, diversity, and inclusion–is a new type of event for the Honors Scholars Program. Every J.E.D.I. event will be addressing one of the four aforementioned social subjects with the intention of improving both the Honors Scholars community and the entirety of CU Boulder. They are designed in an all-too-familiar format, with a professor hosting and chatting with students about the subject in question (similar to TV with a Prof and SciTalks). Because J.E.D.I. series was created specifically for the Honors Scholars Program, attending one of these events will count towards Scholars’ requirement of two events per semester. That said, anyone is welcome to attend. The more the merrier!
When is the first J.E.D.I. event?
The first J.E.D.I. event is scheduled for Monday, November 1, at 6pm MST. It will be hosted in-person by Dr. Hatch in Eaton Humanities, room 250. The topic in discussion is bystander training. If you have any questions about this event, feel free to email us at honorsscholars@colorado.edu.
In other news!
Dr. Kate Fischer will be part of a panel discussion on Thursday, October 7, from 11am – 12pm MST. The topic is equity in the coffee industry, and it will be hosted by the Coffee Lab at Vanderbilt’s Wond’ry. For all those interested, the panel is free and available for anyone to attend! Do take note, however, that you have to register to join; you can do that here. This event does NOT count towards the Honors Scholars event requirement, but it remains a great opportunity to learn more about the coffee industry and to spark much-needed change! We hope to see you there!
