Q&A with Luke Weaver of the Honors Program Student Advisory Board
The Honors Program Student Advisory Board welcomed two new students to the clan this semester: Luke Weaver and Wendy Acevedo. Today, we sat down with Luke to learn more his experience at CU and what brought him to the board.
Tell us about yourself.
I am from Loveland, CO (not the ski area, but the one next to Fort Collins) and I am currently a junior here at CU Boulder. I am majoring in English Literature and minoring in Business Innovation. I chose English as my field of study because I have always been extremely passionate about writing and reading stories. In fact, when I was a child, all I’d ask for for Christmas was books, haha. I think my passion for literature stems from how I perceive it; it is another way of communicating with audiences, yes, but every single reader interprets and visualizes a story differently. Thus, the potential of any written work can be contained only by the limits of the imagination, which is fascinating. That aside, I decided to join CU Boulder because I love the aesthetic and sociability of the campus. Also, Boulder is a huge hotspot for outdoor activities (mountain biking, hiking, etc.) in the warmer months and boasts a decent night-life in the colder months. It’s a win-win situation!
Why did you want to join the Honors Program Student Advisory Board?
I decided to join the Honors Program Student Advisory Board because I already knew everyone on the board beforehand and recognized them as a group of passionate, open minded, and ambitious individuals. I also gravitated to the board because I am very passionate about increasing diversity on campus and making everyone feel welcome here, and I saw the Student Advisory Board as the perfect opportunity/outlet to help achieve this goal. I hope to bring a fresh perspective to the board and to be able to collaborate with the rest of the board to support the honors department, whatever that may entail.
What is your favorite part of being an Honors student?
My favorite part about being an honors student here at CU is that I get to meet a lot of amazing people. Most other honors students share my ambition to make a difference in this world, and although it may not be attainable today, there is no saying it can’t be done tomorrow. The other honors members (faculty and students) are also very outgoing and interesting; everyone is unique in their own way, and I love getting to know people for who they actually are (what they’ve done, where they’ve been, their passions, etc.). I guess Zoe’s right, I am a social butterfly.
Give us a fun fact!
I’ll take your initiative Lexi and say that my fun fact is that I am 19 years old but already a junior. This was made possible after I skipped a grade in grade school and then graduated high school with my Associates degree. A less “scholarly” fun fact, though, is that I have rewatched The Office five times already. What can I say, watching a TV show or a movie with good company is one of the best pastimes.
