Madison Donnelly on “CU Boulder Senior Must-Do’s”
As a senior graduating from CU Boulder in May, I am reflecting on all of the amazing memories I had during my time on campus, even the simple things like walking by Varsity Pond or grabbing a snack at the Weather Tech Café. The lists of things to do on CU Boulder’s campus truly have no end. That being said, I would like to share with you a couple of my favorite activities that are “must-do’s” before saying any final goodbyes:
Strolling around Varsity Pond
Despite all my classes being online this semester, I have still tried to find ways to walk around campus in a safe manner. My new favorite place to stroll to is Varsity Pond near Old Main Chapel. During this time of year, it is not uncommon to see newborn turtles hatching form their shells–pun intended–and geese nesting to prepare for their goslings. At Varsity Pond you surround yourself with such an exquisite campus, yes, but you are also able to witness nature at its finest. If you ever get another chance to walk on campus before graduating, I highly recommend stopping by Varsity Pond and taking it all in!
Enjoying Farrand Field
For my freshman year I lived in the Baker Hall dormitory, which just so happened to be right across from Farrand Field. Yet, it wasn’t until the beginning of this semester–my last semester–that I started to actually value Farrand Field. It is such a fantastic place for reading and relaxation. Whenever I struggled this semester with procrastination and motivation to study, I would push myself to walk here and disconnect for a while. For me, that could mean many things: reading, having a picnic, or even napping. Looking back, Farrand Field not only brought me the focus to do well in school, but also made me appreciate Boulder’s scenery so much more. Those flatirons overlooking campus are absolutely stunning! Speaking from experience, it can be hard to look up when things start to weigh down our shoulders, but this outdoor location is a great place to do just that. In the end, Farrand Field is an embodiment of this school. It is always pushing us to, well, be Boulder.
