What It Means to Be Involved in the Honors Program at CU
My name is Layla Hasan and I am a junior majoring in Integrative Physiology and minoring in Theatre. I lived in the Honors RAP in Smith for my first two years at CU. Living there freshman year was a great way to get my foot in the door with Honors Scholars because we had someone come in to present about it and I was immediately interested. I also really enjoyed attending all of the honors scholars events that were hosted by my Honors professors. The three professors that I had the pleasure of taking classes with in the Honors RAP have been some of my favorite at CU. The honors classes taught by those professors are really great because of their intimate setting of about fifteen students, which fosters an environment for effective discussions. During my second year in the Honors RAP, I was a student leader known as a Flock Leader. In this position, I was a leader for a group of residents with similar interests and I planned events for them that catered towards those interests. One of my goals as a leader in the Honors RAP was to make sure everyone was aware of their opportunities to stay in Honors beyond the Honors RAP and I would definitely always encourage attendance to the Honors Scholars events. Since not living in the Honors RAP this semester, I’m glad that I have been able to stay connected to Honors Scholars. I really appreciate that I am still able to be involved with the program beyond my time living in Smith. I’ve really appreciated the connections I’ve made with Honors professors and hope to continue them through my time at CU. I also really enjoy the community within Honors Scholars. All of the people I’ve interacted with at events have been really friendly and I’ve been able to have a lot of great discussions with them. I look forward to continuing to participate in Honors Scholars for my last few semesters at CU!
