Community Service Requirement Beginning this Spring
The Honors Scholars Program was established last fall by the Honors Student Advisory Board. The program was initially launched with the intent to add a community service component to the program in future years. We are excited to announce that the “future” is next semester!
As of the Spring 2018 semester, Honors Scholars Candidates will be required to attend our community service event during the semester, or obtain a total of five hours of service over the course of the semester on their own time. If one of our community service events are attended, the Honors Scholar will receive credit by swiping into the event with their Buff One card. If the Honors Scholar completes five hours of service on their own, they will need to download the community service form off of D2L, document the hours worked and a supervisor’s contact information, and upload that document to D2L.
Adding community service to the program will demonstrate the program’s value to in becoming active members in communities outside of our educational realm.
Look for future emails and D2L posts for more information regarding this new requirement!
