Who is Lauri McNown?
Hey everyone and welcome back to the home stretch of the spring 2016 semester! As we enter the final few weeks of school, the honors program would like to introduce this year’s Distinguished Lecture Series featuring Lauri McNown. Dr. McNown is a political scientist who received her PhD at C.U. Boulder. Her main academic interests lie in the powers of the presidency as it exists within the system of separation of powers and Constitutional principles. This study blends historical analysis, theory, and contemporary applications involving the evolution of presidential powers, war powers, presidential elections, and foreign policy.
Dr. McNown has taught both in the Political Science Department and the Honors Program at the University of Colorado. For nine years she was the director of the Kittredge Honors Program. She has also taught at Tribhuvan University in Kathmandu, Nepal, for the Ministry of Culture in Beijing, China, and has taught on two voyages on Semester- at-Sea, once as the director of the Core Course.
Her lecture, titled “What being a Political Scientist has Taught me about Life,” will be hosted Wednesday, March 30th at 6:30 in Hellems 241. Pizza will be served. Hope to see you all there!
