Leeds RAP residents attend LAUNCH Festival in San Francisco
In early March, Leeds Residential Academic Program (RAP) residents attended the LAUNCH Festival in San Francisco. Honors student Brianna Huynh attended and shares this report.
This past week, I had the amazing opportunity to travel to the LAUNCH Festival in San Francisco with the Leeds RAP. LAUNCH is an opportunity for start-up companies to pitch their ideas to both investors and the general public alike. The main stage operated like a live version of the television program “Shark Tank” where the top companies were selected to present onstage to a panel of established angel investors and entrepreneurs. In the surrounding stages, many prominent figures in the technology and entrepreneur industry held programs and keynotes on topics ranging from the state of the industry to best practices in their respective companies.
As a first year student, it was a completely unique experience to be surrounded by so much talent and passion. While the purpose of the trip was to gain a first-hand experience at networking and conferencing, we gained a lot more. It was truly inspiring to see all of the aspiring entrepreneurs apply the concepts that we have been studying in class and producing tangible businesses with them. Most of these entrepreneurs were just like us at one point: college students with dreams. If they were able to realize theirs, why won’t we be able to do the same? This conference sparked something within us that will keep burning for a long time to come.
Attending LAUNCH with an amazing group of mentors, advisors, and peers was, undoubtedly, a major highlight of my first year with Leeds and I don’t doubt that I’ll have many more adventures to write about as my college experience goes on.
Brianna Huynh is a first-year Business major. She is currently enrolled in the honors class Environment-Society Geography.
The Leeds RAP is for students in the Leeds School of Business and is not affiliated with the Arts and Sciences Honors Program. Many Business majors (like Brianna) enroll in Arts and Sciences Honors classes and participate in the Arts and Sciences Honors Program. The Arts and Sciences Honors RAP is located in Smith Hall.
