Featured Student: Toluwanimi Obiwole
Toluwanimi Obiwole is a Nigerian-born, Colorado-raised poet. Currently a senior here at CU, Tolu is an ethnic studies major and poetry editor for the school’s Honors Journal. As a member of the 2013-2014 Minor Disturbance youth poetry team, Tolu became a Brave New Voices international poetry festival champion and finalist. In 2015, she was announced Denver’s inaugural Youth Poet Laureate. Now, Tolu works with Colorado youth to promote the use of poetry in everyday life. Drawing on her unique cultural background as a Nigerian-born, Colorado citizen, her poetry explores ideas of family, cultural identity, and femininity. As we welcome in the spring semester, find out more about Tolu and where she gets the inspiration for her work! Check out the two links below to see her perform!
